Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Option

 

The Traditional BSN is a joint program offered by Research College of Nursing and Rockhurst University. This program is designed for students who have completed high school or transferring from community college and other institutions and adults who are entering college for the first time or who are changing careers.

The program is a 4-year program. Students begin their nursing courses in the spring semester of the sophomore year at Research College of Nursing. The typical curriculum is web enhanced curriculum with over 1100 clinical hours.  If the pre-requisites are met, the nursing clinical portion and remaining Rockhurst core requirements are completed in 5 semesters starting in January. Research Medical Center houses the state-of-the-art auditorium, classrooms, computer labs, skills lab and library.

Incoming freshmen application process can be found on the Rockhurst website. Rockhurst Admission Office will notify the student of his or her admission status.

Students who have had advanced courses in high school and who have done well in them may receive college credit.  For this purpose, those who wish may take Subject Level Examinations in various areas of the College Level Examination Program administered at centers throughout the United States.  Students who achieve high scores may be granted exemption from requirements with credits up to a maximum of 32 credit hours in the liberal arts and basic sciences from Advanced Placement, CLEP, or other similar programs. Transfer student must apply prior to March 1st in order to be considered for the sophomore nursing courses that being the following January.  Prerequisites must be completed before January.  Transfer student needs to mail in the completed transfer student application with a $20 application fee made payable to Research college of Nursing. Official transcripts from all colleges attended should also be sent to Research College of Nursing. Grade point average in courses taken at another college must be greater than 2.7 (A=4.0). Completion of science courses at a grade of B or better is preferred. Another option is to go to the Rockhurst Website, indicate Missouri or Kansas and click on the individual school. Contact the Registrar's Office at Rockhurst (816) 501-4181 if the school is not listed.
